How has the growth rate on LinkedIn developed?

LinkedIn growth is not a constant - there are fluctuations from month to month. A look at the historical data shows: The monthly averages move up and down. It is therefore worthwhile not looking at your own performance in isolation, but comparing it with the overall trend.

DotSimple shows you at a glance how your own reach is developing over time - across all channels and available at any time.

How to calculate the growth rate on LinkedIn

The growth rate shows the percentage change in your follower count over a certain period of time - in this case over a month.

📌 Monthly growth rate = (followers on the last day of the month - followers on the first day of the month) divided by followers on the first day of the month

One example:

Assuming your LinkedIn company page had the following on March 1 5.762 followers and on March 31 5.945. The growth rate for the month of March would then be:

📌 5.945 - 5.762 = 183
📌 183 ÷ 5.762 = 0.03176
📌 0.03176 × 100 = 3.18%

We multiply by 100 to represent the result as a percentage. Growth rates are usually given to two decimal places.

What influences the growth rate on LinkedIn?

Growth on LinkedIn is not easy - but there are strategies to gain more followers:

  • Use Engagement Ads: LinkedIn does not offer a special ad campaign for building followers, but with the Engagement goal you can add a "Follow" button to sponsored posts. This works via the LinkedIn Campaign Manager.
  • Actively involve employees: Your team is an obvious target group! A simple circular email or a Slack message with a request to follow the company page can make a big difference.
  • More visibility for non-followers: To ensure your content is seen beyond your existing followers, you should create posts that invite people to share - or actively encourage them to tag others in the comments.

LinkedIn growth takes time - but with the right strategy, you can steadily expand your network. How does your growth compare to the average?
