Connect RSS with DotSimple - Schedule posts (via Zapier)

With an RSS feed, you can automatically transform content from news portals, blogs or your own CMS into social media. In this article, we will show you step by step how to use Zapier and DotSimple automatically publish new articles from an RSS feed as scheduled posts - with text, image and platform selection.

Would you prefer to see the process in action? No problem! In this video, we show you step by step how to automatically connect DotSimple to RSS - whether with Zapier or Make.com.

▶️ Tip: The video visually guides you through both variants - including setup, image upload and planned publication.

📋 Requirements: What you need

  • One RSS feed (e.g. from your website or a news platform)
  • One DotSimple account with access token & workspace ID
  • One Zapier account

🗂️ Step 1: Set up RSS triggers in Zapier

  1. Create Zap:
Go to zapier.com and click on "Create Zap".

  2. Trigger: RSS by Zapier
    Event: New Item in Feed
→ Insert the URL of your RSS feed (e.g. https://rss.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/Europe.xml)
→ Username and password are only required for private feeds

  3. Test the trigger:
    Click on "Test Trigger"
→ Select one of the articles found as a test example

🖼️ Step 2: Upload image to DotSimple

  1. Action: DotSimple - Upload File
→ If not already connected, follow these steps:

    • In the DotSimple app, go to Settings → Access token
    • Click on "Create new token" (e.g. "RSS Zapier Token")
    • Select "never expires" and copy the token
    • The Workspace ID can be found in the URL of your app after /app/ (e.g. app.dotsimple.io/app/abc12345)

→ In the variables from the RSS feed, select the field with the image URL (e.g. Raw Content URL) if the RSS feed you have selected allows you to retrieve the image URL.

📅 Step 3: Create and plan your post

  1. Action: DotSimple - Create Post

    • Date: Enter a fixed date in the format YYYY-MM-DD (e.g. 2025-07-10)
    • Time: 12:00
    • Schedule: true
    • IsOriginal: true
    • Body: Choose e.g. Description from the RSS feed as article text
    • Media: Select the file ID from the previous upload module
    • Platform: z.e.g. LinkedIn page, Instagram, Facebook

Tip: You can later also work dynamically with the date/time from the RSS if your source transmits a publication date, for example.

✅ Result: Planned social media post from RSS

As soon as a new article appears in the RSS feed, it is automatically:

  • the text of the article has been adopted
  • uploaded the picture
  • created a social media post in DotSimple
  • the mail is scheduled for a fixed date/time

This means that every new news item, press release or blog entry automatically turns into a scheduled social media post.

💡 Tips for optimization

  • Use the article link as a call-to-action at the end of the text
  • Set hashtags or emojis directly in the feed (e.g. in the title or description)
  • Use filters in Zapier to only post certain posts (e.g. with certain keywords)

🧠 Conclusion: Automated social media from RSS feeds

With Zapier and DotSimple you can turn RSS feeds into real social media power - completely automatically, plannable and scalable. Ideal for news portals, blogs, press work or SEO campaigns.
