How to calculate the growth rate on Facebook

The growth rate shows how much your number of followers has increased (or decreased) within a certain period of time. As this is a monthly figure, we calculate the difference between the followers on the first and last day of the month.

📌 Formula:
Monthly growth rate = (followers on the last day of the month - followers on the first day of the month) ÷ followers on the first day of the month

Sample calculation:

Assuming your Facebook page had the following on February 1 9,870 followers and on February 28 10,234 followers. This results in the following calculation:

📊 10.234 – 9.870 = 364
📊 364 ÷ 9.870 = 0.03689
📊 0.03689 × 100 = 3.69%

The growth rate is given as a percentage with two decimal places.

What influences the growth rate on Facebook?

Growth is a challenge on any social media platform - and Facebook is no exception. But there are proven methods for gaining more followers:

  • Place Page Like Ads - In contrast to Instagram, Facebook offers a special "Page with "Like"" campaign in the Ads Manager. This allows you to target people and motivate them to like your page.
  • Invite non-followers - If someone interacts with your post but has not subscribed to your page, you can manually invite them to follow your page via the reactions list. One click on "Invite" and Facebook will send a notification!
  • Organize competitions & raffles - If it suits the brand, a competition can quickly increase your reach and attract new followers. Just make sure that you know the local regulations for competitions.
  • More visibility for non-followers - People who don't follow you rarely see your content - unless your content invites them to share it. Posts that encourage users to tag their friends in the comments or share them themselves increase your reach enormously.

Facebook growth doesn't happen overnight, but with the right measures you can steadily gain new followers. Are you keeping an eye on your growth rate?
